The Problem Of Genetic Testing - 1286 Words
Method Though genes often have more than one use, for example, a gene that controls intelligence could also control anger management, you could end up with a genius, but very angry child, the technology has the ability to potentially eliminate the age barrier, and allow humans to live much longer than they are able to do today. The lifespan of a body s cells could be lengthened, and regeneration of those cells stretched by several years, which raises many questions around ethics. One question is around compliance and the fact that genetically altered babies have no say in what is being done to their bodies before birth. Another is the fact that genetic testing is likely only something the wealthy will be able to afford. This may result in class wars and cause a great deal of resentment. Also, another question is around genetic engineering may cause overpopulation if humans are living longer, but there is no denying the benefit that this technology could also hold the promise of preventing g enetic abnormalities that may be passed on to future generation^6. There are three different types of genetic engineering: somatic engineering, germ line engineering, and cloning. Somatic engineering can result in a change of eye color or intelligence. Germ line engineering causes your child to turn out however you like. Cloning is just making an exact replica of another organism. 19th Amendment analysis Free Essays
The 19th Amendment The nineteenth amendment was an enormous step in history. It gave women the right to vote. For many years, women had been fighting for this. We will write a custom essay sample on 19th Amendment analysis or any similar topic only for you Order Now This amendment drastically changed the lives of Americans and others. It all started in 1848. In this year, the Womenââ¬â¢s Suffrage Movement was organized. Some of the key leaders of this movement were Elizabeth Stanton, Lucretia Mott, and Susan Anthony. These three women, with the help of many others, were vital in swaying the publicââ¬â¢s view on womenââ¬â¢s right to vote and have a say in the nation. During the nineteenth century, women organized, petitioned, lectured, marched, rioted, and practiced civil disobedience in order to get freedom. The nineteenth amendment was first introduced in 1878 and was ratified on August 18, 1920. This means that many of the women who started this movement did not live to see it passed. By 1916, most of the major suffrage organizations were fighting for womenââ¬â¢s rights. Even President Wilson, eventually, supported the amendment. After the passing of the amendment, women still fought for equality in all social, political, and economic areas. This movement changed the whole energy of America. The nineteenth amendment gave half the population of America the right to vote and the right to hold public offices. This meant women finally had a voice, it was not just men making all the decisions. This was huge to have women in public offices. Offices once made up entirely of men were being infiltrated with women. It changed the whole dynamic of the working life. Not only did it change America, but it also affected other nations. The United Nations started to examine the treatment of women. Eventually, the United Nations created the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in 1979. The document required the countries that signed to end gender discrimination in their legal system To many, this amendment was one of the greatest and most monumental things to happen in history. Conversely, was it too successful? This act has given women a sense of right entitlement when it comes to things such as being in the army or holding high offices. It is not the job of women to defend our country. Men are our defenders. While some women deserve various jobs due to hard work, there are other jobs that should not be available to women. For instance, presidency should be limited to men. 1 Timothy 2:12 says ââ¬Å"I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. â⬠According to the Bible, men are to have authority over women and women should not hold authority over men. The highest position of authority in America should only be given to men because they are to be the leaders, not women. Nowadays, women have a hard time submitting. They think that just because they now have rights they can take the position of men. This has greatly affected our society. Women are becoming more independent and men are becoming lazier and are losing their leadership. It has caused families to split and the roles of husband and wife have been reversed in many relationships. However, this amendment has also been very good for society. Men no longer treat women like objects or lesser than themselves. Women are generally seen as equals. This is a Biblical idea. Adam and Eve were created equal in Godââ¬â¢s image. Women should not be limited to basically being house servants. They are also human beings who have good insights and can help further a country or state. In the end, the nineteenth amendment has its pros and cons. But the fact that women were finally given equal rights to that of men was monumental. This amendment truly changed history. Hamlets character Essay Example For Students
Hamlets character Essay Hamlets character is interesting because of the way he goes about his revenge. Compared to Laertes he is very hesitant, a thinker, not a warrior. His delay is mainly due to his perception of the ghost, whether it is really his fathers spirit or an evil apparition, but is he really thinking of an excuse to delay seeking revenge or does he want to be 100% sure King Claudius was responsible for the death of his father? The important thing that Shakespeare is trying to portray is that Hamlet seeks certainty before he can take action, but is he a coward? Or someone who is purely driven by his conscience? The opening scene of the play is designed to present the ghost and arouse questions about its credibility. Whether it is an evil or good spirit, the ghost is the mechanism which triggers the need for Hamlets revenge. Hamlets uncertainty about the identity and purpose of the ghost is highlighted in Act I scene IV, Be thou spirit of health or goblin dammed, hence the importance of his thought sequences in deciding whether or not the ghost was real and if not, is there a need to kill Claudius? To seek this revenge he would have to kill Claudius and his mother, for they are both guilty of having impure souls. But one of the very first internal conflicts Hamlet has is when the Ghost tells him nor let thy soul contrive against thy mother aught. Leave her to heaven . This leaves him in great turmoil, as he can justify to himself the killing of Claudius, but not letting his mother live. He is so overcome with a sense of purity and morality, especially with concern to women, it does not seem right to him that something so tainted should be allowed to carry on in the world. He wants his perfect revenge, one that would satisfy his meticulously accomplished conscience, but he is hesitant on whether he can carry it out or not, so instead he declines it altogether or at least puts it off in stages, until he can prove it to himself and can put it off no longer. He is willing to taint his own soul and so go to hell and enter a damnation possibly even worse than that in which the Ghost resides, which the Ghost tells Hamlet that it would harrow up thy soul, freeze thy young blood, make thy two eyes like stars start from their spheres. However, yet he is willing to suffer all this for the sake of revenge in killing Claudius, to avenge his father, so to save his mother, to leave her to heaven, when even he is not allowed this blessing. What he is giving up to be the dutiful son and revenge his fathers murder in comparison to what Gertrude is giving up leaves him worse off than her, even though she has been an adulterous wife. Therefore her being allowed to live on in sin is as wrong not only on her part, but also on Hamlets for allowing it to be. These lines sum up the first act and also most of the play, as it is Hamlet questioning and delaying his revenge. However, in the final scene of act 1, Hamlet says he is to, sweep to my revenge but the play is based on Hamlet not sweeping to his revenge but delaying his revenge. Act 2 is a short act as little happens other than the arrival of the actors. In the previous act Hamlet tells us that he is to put on an antic disposition where he will pretend to be mad to attain more information about his fathers death. .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00 , .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00 .postImageUrl , .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00 , .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00:hover , .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00:visited , .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00:active { border:0!important; } .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00:active , .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00 .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ue15705552d91b4c46d71ea2e5069cd00:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Commentary on Two hands EssayHamlet becomes angry and disgusted with himself; he cant understand his own lack of passion, even after proving to himself that Claudius is guilty. He is very aware of himself not crying in the rehearsal of the play, when the players are moved to tears over the story of the vengeance of Pyrrhus, Priam and Hecuba. As soon as he is alone, he bursts out O, what a rogue and peasant slave am I! Is it not monstrous that this player here, But in a fiction, in a dream of passion, Could force his soul so to his own; That from her working all his visage waned, Tears in his eyes, distraction in his aspect. And all for nothing In Act 3 Hamlet has the chance to act on his revenge as he sees Claudius alone, he does not act because Claudius is praying and if he did kill him then he would go to heaven so Hamlet delays his revenge. In this act Hamlet contemplates suicide, To be, or not to be, that is the question this soliloquy of Hamlets is very philosophical as he asks whether it is better to be dead rather that to face the problems of life. In this soliloquy Hamlet claims that it is thinking which prevents us from action, Thus conscience does make cowards of us all, could this be the reason for which Hamlet delays his revenge? Does Hamlet feel that he is too much of a thinker and his life is so complicated that he cannot sweep to his revenge? Is this the reason that Hamlet holds for his reluctance to react? Is Shakespeare saying that it is a flaw in someones character to think his or her actions through logically beforehand? Also in this act Hamlet destroys his relationship with women furthermore when he confronts Ophelia he tells her, Get thee to a nunnery. As if to call her a prostitute, however Hamlet could be telling her this to get her to seek refuge and save her from the corruption in the society around them. Hamlet feels miserable at his deficit of showing no emotion, he is forced to compare himself and he comes of worse. What would he do had he the motive and the cue for passion that I have? Make mad the guilty and appal the free. He again feels this lack of justified fervour when young Fortinbras goes to battle to fight and possibly to die for a land that is acknowledged to be not worth the sacrifice. This is again someone showing emotion and action when there is not as much reason to do so as there is for Hamlet. When he is alone he sees what Fortinbras has done as being honourable and a rebuke of his own inaction, whereas before when talking to Fortinbras captain, he had been cynical as to the actions they were carrying out. He sees his need to think things through before acting as a deplorable weakness. Even he can see that he is being weak minded and indecisive. But even when convinced he cant kill his uncle deliberately. Claudius being a murderer and committing incest and yet still having the crown of Denmark and outwardly appearing to be just, honourable and a good leader could explain why Hamlet often confuses the order of society in his speeches. This can be seen when he calls himself a rogue and peasant slave when he clearly isnt. To Hamlet, Claudius is tainted and impure in mind and action, yet he is a good ruler of Denmark, a good king, and a good diplomat. He is efficient, confident, in control of affairs, in every way assured and poised. Hamlet identifies with Claudius in a way that restrains him from being able to kill him, hamlet has all the ability and the necessary desire, but Claudius has everything Hamlet wants, which leads to internal sub-conscious conflict on as well as his conscious conflicts. His mothers ability to alter the direction of her affection from one person to another so suddenly hurts Hamlet, as having to share her with his own father was difficult enough, but at least was understandable. He is now jealous that someone else holds such high regard in her affections but at the same time is disgusted with her for loving someone else. .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597 , .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597 .postImageUrl , .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597 , .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597:hover , .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597:visited , .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597:active { border:0!important; } .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597:active , .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597 .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ud929fecc8ffaeaedc285fea36a1e1597:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: For my GCSE practical, we chose to create a piece of improvisation in which I was a performer EssayBut as his jealousy is repressed, as he doesnt even admit to himself that he is jealous of his mothers lovers, all he feels is a deep sense of disgust towards Gertrude that helps him deal with his rejection. Therefore Hamlet could be suffering from the theory that Freud developed. The Oedipus theory, this states that as children, young boys feel great bitterness and resentment towards their fathers for making them share their mothers affections and for having sexual relations with their mothers which the young boys also desire, and so they view their fathers as rivals that th ey would rather have out of the way. These thoughts are repressed as a form of defence for fear that their fathers will realise what they are thinking. Concluding, is Hamlet really a coward? Does he not believe the ghost? Or did he not wish to strike Claudius whilst he was praying? In my opinion I believe Hamlet is a very thorough thinker, He tries to carry out the task, but he is held back in some way, because he cannot kill a person who he recognises as so like himself in what he wants to be like and wishes he could do. His desires towards his mother have been so long repressed that they are now repulsive to him, but yet her remarrying brings those thoughts to his attention. He sees someone taking the place of his father in her affections, the place that he has long coveted. When Hamlet discovers the identity of his fathers murderer his first instant reply is O my prophetic soul! My uncle? . This does imply that unconsciously the idea had been in his mind and had suddenly been brought back to his awareness.

Remember, as the well-known truth: it is not necessary to look into the abyss, and the abyss will come after you, you swallow However, life is a daily and confirmed!. Those who love most of all to judge and treat others more than themselves, and most of all get sick. Yes, and live on less. But there is nothing to take on the mission of God! Not casual people thrown in temptation. But, thank God, not all think so. Not everyone thinks that to write well, you can only do with age. Not all identify themselves only to the lyrics, physics and metaphysics. There turns out to be more normal people from birth. Yes, and talented. Today I present to readers of one of the normal and talented writer (and he, in spite of his young years 13 years was already a fairly eminent writer, who has written three () complete, art books: On the swings between the hills! Rainbow for others and Twelve touching the horizon ) Michael Samara. I deliberately did not write pet name Misha, because the Lord has given Michael as talent and integrity of nature, adult rational and watchful mind, a comprehensive, sharp word. Perhaps someone does not agree with my specific inference that age is not a hindrance to creativity. Wranglers on the internet that say for the sake of talking and arguing for the sake of arguing, always enough. It is, as a rule, those who put on low heat fry the meatballs in the kitchen, quickly ran to the computer to a couple of times to press the keys and also quickly ran back to the kitchen. Otherwise, burgers Undermountain! But Im here and I will not argue. Life itself has put everything on its shelves. How would anyone not argued, and the lyrics long ago spun off from the physicists, and physicists began lyricists. Adults aunts and uncles, who were made rich life experiences, long ago drove his train, stuffed with waste paper and pornushnoy nabivshimi nauseam horror (from which tremble themselves at night!) In a dead end. And stubbornly Buravov this impasse, continuing to pull out of the bowels of the so-called life experience lived their dirty clothes. You know, you can criticize everything. But there is a difference between the sili- black coal face and the spring freshness of the early June morning, between a rusty nail and a field of wild daisies? I read all three books Misha Samara. And I will not expose the analysis of each of them. Because its a sin! It is a sin to hear the same fontanelle early June morning, and at the same time wondering: Why? It is a sin not to listen to silence the silence and the voice of a pine forest, the chirping of birds and at the same time, the puzzle itself sacramental question: How, and why? Probably all the troubles today originate from the fact that we are constantly engaged in talking shop condemn someone (and talents we have always and consistently condemn!) and do not know how to listen to including the nature, the people around us, and ultimately, and yourself! What we do not have harmony and resonance with the existence and nature. And we get more and more and more bitio. So what can I say, we learn to lie. Or, if you want to write. In the case and is not the case. But Misha Samara, unlike us who have lived, accumulated and venerable, is the very nature. Thank God, untouched, not bent trials and foundations NATURE. From creativity Misha Samara smells fresh, virgin, cool, natural presentation of ideas and the truth of life. Misha these lives. It is very good, he writes, lives and can not lie. And not learn. Because the style is. Not vranlivy. Direct style. Lays out everything as it is Want to criticism from me? Please! Sometimes some of his lines, for example, in Rainbow for others seem childish little naive. But not declarative! But pure thoughts, deeds and thoughts, and be a little naive. We should always be human, man. A pet dog, the more it is known, does not betray. What can be even cleaner, more openly and sincerely Misha Creativity Samara it is the warmth and love. And, most importantly, the soul. This is truly the soul must work! Therefore, I would poosterog zealous critics and well-wishers of the accusations, because Michael Samara the writer of an open, direct and honest style It is no secret.? Lets also be honest to admit that even we experienced writers often complain that our creativity much prevents, for example, toscha or no inspiration, someone talking loudly, finally, the tea is not too sweet and not quite hot But judging by the works of Misha Samara, we can conclude: This is the writer who does not interfere to create, nothing prevents neither in life nor in friendship or in their studies or in prose You do not have to look! Cause and effect, compared with the work of older people and very adult! Because talent Mischa Samara is primarily manifested in humanity, mercy, and compassionate. Because talent he is around talent. Michael Samara talented in all. Speaking as Misha Samara achieved such peaks, it is quite another, serious topic. But now we can proudly state, speaking of our national literature, that in our ranks at last master narrative appeared. Because it is this schoolboy, Misha Samara, characterized by extreme accuracy, spirituality, art and craftsmanship. The secret of his skill in constant movement of thought, soul, cultivating creativity and thirst Perhaps, say, that Michael Samara create your individual, no one else like, original creative world, it is too early. Hes just in the way. But re-reading the book Misha, we can say that the building and the creation of Misha Samara will be very strong, classic, elegant and harmonious. Good luck, Mike, happiness and creative way! If you do not, no one! Do you understand me. And again, enjoy reading and rereading books Misha Samara. I read and I can not help wondering, we do not have enough time and space encompassing spirituality, brightness, sonority, precision and muscularity phrases of volume of human thinking. Thank you, Michael! Your book it is a valuable gift for people who know how to think Honored Worker of Culture of Russia, A member of the Russian Writers Union, A member of the Russian Union of Journalists / A!. Study Guide for the Medieval Morality Play Everyman
Study Guide for the Medieval Morality Play 'Everyman' Written in England during the 1400s, The Summoning of Everyman (commonly known as Everyman) is a Christian morality play. No one knows who wrote the play. Historians have noted that monks and priests often wrote these types of dramas. Basic Plot God decides that Everyman (a character who represents an average, everyday human) has become too obsessed with wealth and material possessions. Therefore, Everyman must be taught a lesson in piety. And who better to teach a life lesson than a character named Death? Man Is Unkind Godââ¬â¢s chief complaint is that humans are ignorantly leading sinful lives, unaware that Jesus died for their sins. Everyman has been living for his own pleasure, forgetting about the importance of charity and the potential threat of eternal hellfire. Upon Godââ¬â¢s bidding, Death summons Everyman to take a pilgrimage to the Almighty. When Everyman realizes that the Grim Reaper has called upon him to face God and give a reckoning of his life, he tries to bribe Death to ââ¬Å"defer this matter till another day.â⬠The bargaining doesnââ¬â¢t work. Everyman must go before God, never to return to Earth again. Death does say that the hapless hero can take along anyone or anything that may benefit him during this spiritual trial. Friends and Family Are Fickle After Death leaves Everyman to prepare for his day of reckoning (the moment in which God judges him), Everyman approaches a character named Fellowship, a supporting role that represents Everymanââ¬â¢s friends. At first, Fellowship is full of bravado. When Fellowship learns that Everyman is in trouble, he promises to stay with him until the problem is resolved. However, as soon as Everyman reveals that Death has summoned him to stand before God, Fellowship ditches the poor guy. Kindred and Cousin, two characters that represent family relationships, make similar promises. Kindred declares, ââ¬Å"in wealth and woe we will with you hold, for over his kin a man may be bold.â⬠But once Kindred and Cousin realize Everymanââ¬â¢s destination, they back out. One of the funniest moments in the play is when Cousin refuses to go because he has a cramp in his toe. The overall message of the playââ¬â¢s first half is that relatives and friends (as reliable as they may seem) pale in comparison to the steadfast companionship of God. Goods vs. Good Deeds After getting rejected by fellow humans, Everyman turns his hopes to inanimate objects. He talks to a character named ââ¬Å"Goods,â⬠a role which represents Everymanââ¬â¢s material possessions and wealth. Everyman pleads for Goods to assist him in his hour of need, but they offer no comfort. In fact, the Goods chide Everyman, suggesting that he should have admired material objects moderately ââ¬â¹and that he should have given some of his goods to the poor. Not wanting to visit God (and subsequently be sent to hell), Goods abandons Everyman.ââ¬â¹Ã¢â¬â¹ Finally, Everyman meets a character who will genuinely care for his plight. Good-Deeds is a character who symbolizes the acts of charity and kindness performed by Everyman. However, when the audience first meets Good-Deeds, she is laying on the ground, severely weakened by Everymanââ¬â¢s many sins. Enter Knowledge and Confession Good-Deeds introduces Everyman to her sister, Knowledge. This is another friendly character who will provide good advice to the protagonist. Knowledge serves as an important guide for Everyman, instructing him to seek out another character: Confession. Everyman is led to Confession. Readers expecting to hear a bunch of scandalous ââ¬Å"dirtâ⬠on the main character, expecting him to beg forgiveness, or hoping he will at least apologize for whatever sins he has committed will be surprised here. Instead, Everyman asks for his vices to be wiped clean. Confession says that with penance, Everymanââ¬â¢s spirit may become clean once more. What does penance mean? In thisà play, it means that Everyman undergoes a severe and purifying form of physical punishment. After he suffers, Everyman is amazed to discover that Good-Deeds is now free and strong, ready to stand by his side during his moment of judgment. The Five-Wits After this purging of the soul, Everyman is ready to meet his maker. Good-Deeds and Knowledge tell Everyman to call upon ââ¬Å"three persons of great mightâ⬠and his Five-Wits (his senses) as counselors. Everyman calls forth the characters Discretion, Strength, Beauty, and Five-Wits. Combined, they represent the core of his physical human experience. Unlike the first half of the play when he begged for help from his friends and family, Everyman is now relying on himself. However, even though he receives some good advice from each entity, he realizes that they will not go the distance as he journeys closer to his meeting with God. Like previous characters, these entities promise to stay by his side. Yet, when Everyman decides that it is time for his body to physically die (perhaps as part of his penance), Beauty, Strength, Discretion, and the Five-Wits abandon him. Beauty is the first one to take a hike, disgusted by the idea of lying in a grave. The others follow suit, and Everyman is left alone with Good-Deeds and Knowledge once again. Everyman Departs Knowledge explains that he wonââ¬â¢t be going into the ââ¬Å"heavenly sphereâ⬠with Everyman, but will stay with him until he departs from his physical body. This seems to imply that the soul does not retain its Earthly knowledge. However, Good-Deeds (as promised) will journey with Everyman. At the end of the play, Everyman commends his soul to God. After his departure, an angel arrives to announce that Everymanââ¬â¢s soul has been taken from his body and presented before God. A final narrator enters to explain to the audience that all should heed the lessons of Everyman: that everything in life is fleeting, with the exception of acts of kindness and charity. Overall Theme As one might expect from a morality play, Everyman has a very clear moral, one that is delivered at the beginning, middle, and end of the play. The blatantly religious message is simple: Earthly comforts are fleeting. Only good deeds and Godââ¬â¢s grace can provide salvation. The lessons of the play are delivered in the form of allegorical characters, each one representing a variety of abstract concepts such as good deeds, material possessions, and knowledge. Who Wrote Everyman? Many morality plays were a collaborative effort by clergymen and residents (often tradesmen and guild members) of an English town. Over the years, lines would be changed, added, and deleted. Therefore, Everyman is probably the result of multiple authors and decades of literary evolution. Historical Context When Everyman summons the Five-Wits, a fascinatingà discussion about the importance of the priesthood follows. FIVE-WITS:For priesthood exceedeth all other thing; To us Holy Scripture they do teach,And converteth man from sin heaven to reach;God hath to them more power given,Than to any angel that is in heaven According to the Five-Wits, priests are more powerful than angels. This reflects the prevalent role of priests in medieval society. In most European villages, the clergy were the moral leaders. However, the character of Knowledge mentions that priests are not perfect, and some of them have committed egregious sins. The discussion concludes with a general endorsement of the church as the surest path to salvation.

MRI Gradient Coils Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
MRI Gradient Coils - Essay Example researcher defined the gradients in line 10 of the last page. It could have been better if it was placed in the Introduction rather than in the last page since definitions were intended to introduce the reader to the significant terms used in the writing. The researcher wrote in the second paragraph of the abstract, ââ¬Å"Human research magnets of 7T and 8T are operation in several site worldwide.â⬠However, it is quite disturbing why these types of magnets were mentioned in the abstract but nothing in the research paper discussed these things. Said sentence therefore appears to be irrelevant. Thus, the researcher must either discuss these types of magnets in the body of the paper or better yet, totally delete the above-quoted sentence. In addition, the author mentioned in the introduction that he/she will elaborate on the different gradient types and designs thereof. However, perusal of the body of the research paper would show that only the three (3) main ingredients, to wit, z, y and x, were discussed as part of the MR system. In the last paragraph of the summary, the author stated, ââ¬Å"the distinct advantages over normal radiographs and CT examinations, is that it does without the delivery of ionizing radiation to the patientâ⬠. I respect the authorââ¬â¢s view; however, I cannot agree on this as MRI gives precise contrast differences between soft tissues that significantly help in diagnosing abnormalities than other normal radiographs and CT examinations.
